The City Of Neighborhoods

The City Of Neighborhoods

Fishtown, Grays Ferry, Port Richmond, Overbrook, Manayunk, Kensington, Olney, Point Breeze. This isn't one city, it's a hundred small towns that share a water bill.

We'll argue with each other about all of it. Whose water ice is better, whose parade is better, whose block did it first. It's a full-contact sport and everybody plays.

Then somebody from out of town opens their mouth about Philadelphia, and every one of those arguments disappears in a second. Suddenly there's no neighborhood line at all — there's just us.

That's the thing outsiders never see. The rivalry is internal. The loyalty is total.
